BGC launches myth busters series to set out facts on regulated betting and gaming
The Betting and Gaming Council has launched a new myth busters series, bringing together evidence and official data to challenge some of the most common misconceptions about the regulated betting and gaming industry.
The series sets out clear facts on a wide range of issues, including the growing threat of the harmful gambling black market, the strength of regulation in Great Britain, and the safeguards in place to protect customers.
It also addresses claims around advertising, online protections, funding for research, prevention and treatment, and the role of licensed operators in supporting safer gambling.
Designed as a resource for policymakers, media and stakeholders, the series highlights the importance of maintaining a well regulated market that protects consumers while preventing the growth of illegal operators.
Among the findings highlighted are that licensed gambling advertising spend is declining, that problem gambling rates in Great Britain remain low and stable by international standards, and that BGC members support 109,000 jobs while contributing £4bn in taxes and £6.8bn to the UK economy.
The series draws on a wide range of sources, including the Gambling Commission, the Government, the NHS, the World Health Organization and independent research.
