The BGC have several standing committees which members can join. Additional working groups are formulated as and when new issues, projects or consultations arise. Participation in Committee meetings is a benefit of BGC membership and allows operators to receive updates on regulatory, policy and political matters affecting the industry, shape the work of the BGC and network with members from across the sector.

Committees and Working Groups

Advertising Committee

The Advertising Committee provides a forum for the BGC and members to discuss the development and implementation of advertising commitments, Gambling Act Review outcomes and wider industry initiatives relating to advertising, marketing, sponsorship, and AdTech. The Committee also considers external pressures and challenges connected to gambling advertising, helping to shape coordinated industry responses while supporting the BGC’s commitment to raising standards and promoting safer gambling messaging.

Compliance & Regulatory Affairs Committee

The Compliance & Regulatory Affairs Committee provides members with updates across all areas of regulatory affairs, including Gambling Commission engagement, Government policy developments, consultations, compliance assessments, and regulatory risk. The Committee also discusses the sector’s policy objectives and engagement strategies, enabling members to share expertise and support the development of coordinated approaches to compliance issues and regulatory affairs.

Illegal Markets Committee

The Illegal Markets Committee is a strategic forum focused on tackling the growing threat posed by the illegal gambling black market. The Committee is an opportunity to discuss ongoing and planned activity, including tracking the scale and growth of the black market, monitoring enforcement, and raising public awareness of the harms caused by illegal gambling, as well as identifying how the sector can collaborate with stakeholders to tackle the growing threat of illegal gambling.

Reputation Committee

The Reputation Committee is focused on shaping and protecting the industry’s reputation through proactive and reactive communications, advocacy, and building the relationships needed for the BGC to be effective.

Online Committee

The Online Committee provides members with regular updates on ongoing policy and regulatory developments affecting the online betting and gaming sector, as well as a acting as a forum for discussion and collaboration to shape the BGC’s position on these issues.

Retail Committee

The Retail Committee covers all areas of public and regulatory affairs relevant to the land-based bookmaking sector.

Research & Data Committee

The Research & Data Committee is as a forum for knowledge sharing and collaboration on key research and data sharing projects. This will be the primary forum through which the BGC work with members on data collection and analysis, provide feedback and agree future areas of focus.

Tax Committee

The Tax Committee is comprised of tax experts from across the industry. It provides a platform for the BGC and members discuss the developments relating to domestic taxation issues and upcoming Government budgets. It also receives updates on the work of the BGC International Committee which operates in other jurisdictions.

Casino Committee

The Casino Committee contains representatives from the entirety of the UK’s land-based casino sector. The group discusses issues pertinent to the sector, including the modernisation measures set out in the White Paper, compliance assessments, AML regulations, monitoring illegal casino activity, and improving the fiscal climate for land-based casinos.

International Committee (additional membership subscription required)

The International Committee represents the interests of its members in overseas jurisdictions. The Committee’s primary objective is to ensure that its members can enter soon-to-be regulated online gambling markets and operate in workable conditions. This includes working with Governments to bring forward viable licensing regimes. The Committee agrees on strategies to advance the interests of members, allocating the necessary funds to finance engagement, advocacy and research activity in each jurisdiction. Previous examples include Brazil, Greece and Portugal.

Gambling Anti Money Laundering Group (GAMLG)

This committee is independently chaired by Keith Bristow, former Director-General of the National Crime Agency and Police Chief Constable. Its aim is to improve the gambling industry’s ability to tackle money laundering. The committee discusses, provides advice on, and promulgates best practice for issues relating to AML, such as customer monitoring, source of funds checks and divestment of funds.
