Tackling the illegal gambling black market
The Betting and Gaming Council is calling for coordinated action to tackle the growing illegal gambling black market, which exposes consumers to fraud, criminality and gambling-related harm.
Representing around 90% of the regulated UK betting and gaming industry, we are urging Government, regulators, technology companies and financial institutions to work together to disrupt and shut down illegal operators targeting British consumers.
Our five-point plan sets out practical measures to protect consumers, support legitimate businesses and prevent further growth of the black market. Every customer lost to illegal operators is a customer gambling without the protections, oversight and safer gambling measures that exist within Britain's highly regulated betting and gaming sector.
Left unchecked, the harmful black market threatens to undermine progress in raising standards, strengthening consumer protections and supporting those at risk of harm.
The BGC's Five-Point Plan
The black market is growing fast and attracting billions of pounds in stakes from British consumers. Illegal operators offer none of the protections available in the regulated sector, meaning every customer who moves to the black market loses vital safeguards. This is a consumer protection issue. Our five-point plan sets out practical measures to tackle the black market and better protect consumers.
