AS NATION MARKS REMEMBRANCE, BETTING AND GAMING COUNCIL IS PROUD TO CONFIRM SPONSORSHIP OF LEICESTER RACECOURSE VETERANS’ DAY

The Betting and Gaming Council is proud to confirm it will once again sponsor Leicester Racecourse Veterans’ Day, which raises vital funds for a host of military charities.

Confirmation of the support comes as the nation prepares to mark Armistice Day and Remembrance Sunday this weekend.

The third Leicester Racecourse Veterans’ Day will be held on March 8th next year. Each race on the day is sponsored by a partner who makes a contribution to a military charity with a connection to Leicester.

Meanwhile, veterans are invited to enjoy a day of racing, where they are the guests of honour.

This event is another opportunity for the BGC to give back to the veteran community that has sacrificed so much on behalf of this nation’s security and prosperity.

The BGC’s sponsorship of Veterans’ Day builds on the work we have already done to celebrate veterans and support military charities.

Our members have gifted nearly £750,000 to armed forces charities over recent years, including The Royal Navy and Royal Marines Charity, SAS Regimental Association, ABF The Soldiers’ Charity and the RAF Benevolent Fund after our members either handed profits or made donations following the flagship Britannia Stakes race held at Royal Ascot.

Betting and Gaming Council CEO Michael Dugher, said: “We are proud to confirm our support for this wonderful event once again.

“Raising money for military charities is in the BGC’s DNA, we have done it from Day One, and I’m delighted we can confirm that support will continue next year.

“Veterans’ Day at Leicester Racecourse is a fantastic event for ex-service personnel and raises significant funds for a host of worthy charities.

“It is an honour to back this fantastic event which does so much good for our veteran community.”

Last year, through sponsorship, media rights and the levy, BGC members contributed £384m to British horse racing.

This is part of a wider economic contribution our members make to UK plc, supporting 110,000 jobs, generating £7.1bn for the economy while raising £4.2bn in taxes.

The Betting and Gaming Council is the standards body representing over 90 per cent of the regulated betting and gaming industry in the UK, including bookmakers, casinos and bingo and online betting.
