WATCH: BGC CHARITY BET DELIVERS FUNDING BOOST FOR LOCAL CHARITY

Betting and Gaming Council (BGC) members are backing community projects in Telford after a successful charity bet placed by Shaun Davies MP raised over £700 for Dawley Town Hall.

The donation was generated through the BGC’s Grand National charity bet initiative, which sees MPs from across the country invited to place a bet, with all winnings going to a local good cause of their choice.

Shaun Davies, MP for Telford, backed I Am Maximus at odds of 8/1 in this year’s race, with the proceeds now set to support a range of activities at Dawley Town Hall, including youth clubs and breakfast clubs for young people in the local area.

Shaun Davies MP said: “I’m really pleased to have turned this opportunity into a positive outcome for the community. Having helped bring Dawley Town Hall back into community use and led it for nearly 15 years, I know just how much the venue and its team contribute to local life in Dawley.

"It’s great to see them benefit from this funding following our successful bet on this year’s Grand National, made possible through the Betting and Gaming Council’s initiative.

“The Grand National is the one time each year I have a flutter on the horses, and it always brings back childhood memories of choosing a horse with my grandad. These winnings will go towards supporting Dawley Town Hall’s vital work in the community, including youth clubs, breakfast clubs and other important local initiatives.”

“This year’s campaign raised over £20,000 for a wide range of good causes, and since the initiative began in 2022, it has now raised more than £70,000 for charities up and down the UK.

“I’m particularly delighted to see the funds supporting such a worthwhile local cause as Dawley Town Hall in Shaun’s constituency. This campaign shows how major sporting events can be channelled into making a real difference in communities across the country.”
